Whether you’ve found your way here from my resume, LinkedIn, referral, or by accident – Welcome to my site! My name is Trey Higdon. I am a public relations professional, social media manager, content producer, and visual & written storyteller with a knack for punchy one-liners and dad jokes.

Present day

What am I up to now? I’m glad you asked. I am the Social Media & Digital Marketing Manager for Spot, Inc. – a leading third-party logistics provider (3PL) headquartered in Indianapolis, IN. In March of 2022, I was recruited to be a part of a complete departmental rebuild. I manage the company’s organic and paid social media strategy and curate photo, video, graphic, and written materials for the company’s social media and website. I have developed a comprehensive social media strategy that has led to a ~25% follower growth across the company’s channels. I have also developed and instructed company-wide social media advocacy programs.

I have a huge passion for sports and athlete marketing, which will make sense when you read the section below. As such, I’ve returned to the sports social media world on a freelance basis with USL Championship side San Diego Loyal. From August 2023 through the end of the season/playoffs, I am assisting the SD Loyal creative team by running the club’s social media channels on match days.

In the past

Previously, I was the Content Communications Manager for USL Championship side Indy Eleven Professional Soccer. During my tenure with the club (February 2018 – April 2022), I was considered one of the key communications professionals in the league for league-wide social media content consultation. My duties included (but were not limited to) managing content creation and strategy for Indy Eleven’s social media channels (X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn, and TikTok); managing all pre/post-game communications (previews, recaps, match notes, graphics, and post-game press conferences); Wrote, edited, published, and distributed press releases, newsletters, media guidelines, feature stories, and other club media materials; and acted at the club’s primary media relations contact.

I, along with my department head at the time, were co-recipients of the 2020 USL Championship Media-Voted Best in Class Communications award for our work during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, which brought the sports world to a grinding halt.

I started my professional career full-time in 2017 as the Marketing Manager for Creative Works, a global fabricator of props and family entertainment attractions. I was responsible for curating content and managing Creative Works’s social media presence, securing story placements in industry publications, and developing best-practice marketing guidelines for customers.

Let’s get personal

I am a Hoosier through and through. I was born and raised in Franklin, Ind. I currently reside there with my wife and (at the time of writing) four-month-old daughter. I attended Indiana University Purdue University – Indianapolis (which is now Indiana University – Indianapolis), where I graduated with High Distinction (Top 10%) and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Japanese. I originally attended Ball State University (Chirp! Chirp!) as a Japanese Education major before transferring to IUPUI, but that’s a story for another day.

If you’ve made it this here, here are a few more fun facts: I played soccer against Iron Maiden, I’m a pro* golfer, avid disc golfer, guitarist, whiskey & Bloody Mary enthusiast, gamer, and much more.

*I’m a pro when it comes to losing multiple balls per 18 holes.
