Microsoft Surface, First Impression (#J360)

It’s been about five years since my last computer purchase, and I figured I long overdue. I’ve been using my 2009 white, polycarbonate MacBook (right after my brand new MacBook Pro shattered before my eyes after just months of having it) for just about everything since I started school, and its life is slowly coming to an end. Change is great, but doesn’t come cheap. So, after years of waiting, I finally upgraded to a first generation Microsoft Surface Pro 128 GB, and the wait was very well worth it.

As for my first impression, I couldn’t be happier. The touch screen is ultra-responsive to both hand and Surface Pen (included) interactions. The screen’s resolution is crystal clear and crisp. The i5 processor delivers speeds that are to die for (in comparison to my last laptop and desktop computers). On the downside, I did have to factory reset several times due to an error in Windows 8 and the 104 updates I needed to install (including staying up for 3 nights/several hours each update session).

Overall, I am extremely happy with my purchase and can’t wait to incorporate all of my audio/visual work into this machine.
